Udell Returns to Action at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin (June 25, 2015)- Following an extended break since the Grand Prix of Alabama in April, 19-year-old Alec Udell will return to Pirelli World Challenge competition during this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge DeVilbiss Road America Grand Prix presented by Cadillac.

“Road America is a race we didn’t want to miss, so I’m very thankful that we’re back,” stated Udell. “I really have to thank James and everyone at GMG for creating a program that could get me back behind the wheel. It’s frustrating because we’ve repeatedly shown our speed and ability, but hopefully the worst is behind us and we can show well for everyone at Panther Pipeline.”

Driving the No. 17 GMG Racing / Panther Pipeline Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Udell has had a challenging 2015 season. After sweeping the podium during the season opener at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Alec would suffer a devastating accident in the series’ third round in St. Petersburg, Florida. Getting caught in a start-finish line incident that was not his doing, extensive damage to his Porsche would force the Texas native to sit out the next two rounds.

One month later, Alec would return to the scene at the Grand Prix of Alabama, not missing a step as he scored successive podiums during the weekend. Unfortunately, with his championship hopes dashed in concert with budget challenges, the team elected to sit out the following round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Returning to action at Road America’s famed four mile,14-turn circuit, the team has high hopes for a good result. With the fast, flowing nature of the permanent road course suiting Alec’s style, the team’s focus is on additional podiums.

Away from the track, Udell is also promoting the release of “One Hundred and Fifty at Fifteen” an inspirational documentary about Alec, who at the age of fifteen was the youngest professional race car driver in North America. The documentary is now available to rent or purchase via Amazon.com and the Amazon Instant Video app on your Kindle Fire, iPad or iPhone.

Official practice for Pirelli World Challenge from Road America begins Thursday, June 25, with the first race on Saturday at 2:35 PM ET. The weekend’s second race will take place on Sunday at 3:25 PM ET. Live race coverage can be found at world-challengetv.com, as well as continued reports throughout the weekend on the Alec Udell Racing Facebook and Instagram accounts.
